Jerry Garcia Amphitheatre and JerryDay

from Jambase:

The residents of San Francisco are celebrating Jerry Garcia's 63rd birthday (Aug. 1st) and honoring the 10 year anniversary of his death (Aug. 9th) by renaming the music venue in nearby
McLaren Park after the Grateful Dead guitarist. JerryDay, a free event to coincide with the dedication, is scheduled for Aug. 7 and will feature four bands, food booths and arts and crafts.
Christopher Sabec, (CEO and Manager, Jerry Garcia Estate LLC) had these remarks on the occasion. "The idea of naming the amphitheatre at McLaren Park after Jerry Garcia is one of the sweeter and more sensible ideas around. This idea began with a bunch of Jerry's fans, and the city's Park and Rec department, along with Supervisor Sandoval and Mayor Gavin Newsom's office, have unanimously signed off - it's just one of those good ideas that make sense - after all, Jerry grew up just blocks away from McLaren Park, and we all know the place of music in his life.
It will be quite a celebration at this year's Jerry Day (August 7th) party, although a formal dedication (and new sign for the amphitheatre) will take place later, at a date to be determined.
Congratulations to everybody for honoring Jerry's memory in a really appropriate way."
