The legend of the late Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead has more to do with the band's live shows than it does with its studio recordings. The concert experience was an essential part of being a Deadhead - the famously monikered fans of the band. In concert, the Dead was known for playing for hours on end - why, sometimes the band's sets seemed ... endless. To do this, the band sometimes put its own tie-dyed spin on songs by performers that it respected - a long list that covers everyone from Warren Zevon and Bob Dylan to The Beatles and James Brown. It is testament to the band's songwriting that many contemporary bands have covered songs by the Dead. What follows is a Living Dead mix CD of 15 covers of songs by the Dead that can be enjoyed by the novice fan - or even one of Jerry's Kids.

1. "Lady With a Fan," Bruce Hornsby, on Here Come The Noisemakers
2. "Truckin'," Dwight Yoakam, on In Others Words
3. "One More Saturday Night," The Persuasions, on Might As Well
4. "Friend Of The Devil," Ministry, on The Bridge School Concerts Vol. 1
5. "Ripple," The New Riders Of The Purple Sage, on The Best of The New Riders Of The Purple Sage
6. "Uncle John's Band," Jimmy Buffett, on Fruitcake
7. "Ship Of Fools," Elvis Costello, on Kojak Variety
8. "Franklin's Tower," Meat Puppets, on Meat Puppets

10. "Blues For Allah," Henry Kaiser, on Eternity Blue
11. "Loser," Cracker, on Kerosene Hat
12. "Scarlet Begonias," Sublime, on Contact Buzz
13. "Wharf Rat," Midnight Oil, on Deadicated
14. "Estimated Prophet," Burning Spear, on Jah Kingdom
15. "Bird Song," Keller Williams, on Stage
(Bonus Jerry Garcia Spins In His Grave track: "Me & My Uncle," John Denver, on The Wildlife Concert)
