Blethen Maine Newspapers Inc.

STARKS -- Former Grateful Dead member Vince Welnick will perform during Hempstock XV, the pro-marijuana and music festival at Harry Brown's farm on Abijah Hill Road.
Welnick and the Gent Treadly Band will play at 11 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Welnick's band also performed at last year's Hempstock.

The festival runs from noon Thursday, until 4 p.m. Sunday. Day tickets are $15 in advance, by calling 696-8167 or visiting www.mainevocals.net.

They are $20 at the gate. Camping tickets for the weekend are $40 in advance and $50 at the gate.
In addition to Welnick, Hempstock will feature more than 30 bands from across the country. Jam and rock will prevail, with a bit of bluegrass and folk.

Between acts, activist speakers will tell the public about cannabis and its prohibition, as well as other important issues. There will be food vendors and merchants with clothing, incense, books, herbs and more.
The general public night show gate opens at 7 p.m., and ends just prior to 1 a.m.

Hempstock is produced by Maine Vocals, whose founder Don Christen has advocated for the legalization of marijuana.
