Auction to include items from personal collection of Steve Parish & Herbie Herbert

From eMediaWire:

Former Journey Manager Herbie Herbert to Auction Rock Memorabilia

Backstage Auctions offers up rare and one of a kind memorabilia from the personal collections of some of San Francisco’s true rock icons.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) March 16, 2006 -- It is with great excitement that Backstage Auctions announces the “San Francisco Rock Icon Auction”, the first of many exciting auctions in the 2006 line up. The auction, which is truly a celebration of San Francisco’s music scene, features the private collection of legendary manager and musician Herbie Herbert.

Herbie got his start in the industry as the young and eager road manager for Frumious Bandersnatch, a psychedelic band that rocked the Bay Area from 1966 to 1969. In 1973 Herbie pulled together Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon, Ross Valory, George Tickner and Prairie Prince to form the Golden Gate Rhythm Section which very soon became Journey. With Journey’s success and his desire to do more, Herbie added Mr. Big, Europe and Roxette and other artists to his management roster. Since then, Herbie has moved from backstage into the spotlight, recording three albums as Sy Klopps and touring the San Francisco Bay Area with the Sy Klopps Band, which has included such Journey band members as Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, Prairie Prince, and Ross Valory. Having recently closed down his studio, Herbie felt that his personal rock and roll treasures should be made available to the fans because without the fans none of this would have been possible.

Herbie’s collection is a 35 year walk down rock history, with each piece telling a story and chronicling his legendary career. Among the more notable pieces being offered are his personal gold and platinum record awards, studio recording reels, over 4,000 pieces of vintage vinyl, original album artwork from Stanley Mouse, personal diaries, classic San Francisco concert posters, a very unique collection of vintage amps from the 50’s and 60’s and even an arcade game that traveled on the road with Journey for years.

Equally exciting, the auction will also feature pieces from the personal collections of Steve Parish (Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia), Bill Thompson (Jefferson Airplane) and Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame inductee Michael Shrieve (Santana, Rolling Stones, Pete Townshend, just to name a few). “Each consignor in this auction is legendary for their contributions to the history of rock and roll and collectively they wanted to pass along to the fans many of their amazing treasures from their personal collections,” says Backstage Auctions founder Jacques van Gool.

The auction will begin on Sunday, April 23rd and will run for one week ending on Sunday, April 30th. The full auction catalog, which will feature over 700 auction lots, will be available online to view beginning Sunday, April 17th at www.backstageauctions.com.
